Cada epis\u00f3dio come\u00e7a com a morte de um personagem, que dar\u00e1 o tom da hist\u00f3ria. \u00c9 um drama sobre uso de drogas, homossexualidade, falta de comunica\u00e7\u00e3o familiar, car\u00eancia afetiva e v\u00e1rias outras quest\u00f5es, sempre conduzido com delicadeza. Ball acabou ganhando o Emmy de Melhor Dire\u00e7\u00e3o pelo piloto da s\u00e9rie. Foram cinco temporadas (2001-2005) com emo\u00e7\u00f5es nunca exploradas numa s\u00e9rie dram\u00e1tica para a TV. Edith foi a primeira mulher a ganhar um Pulitzer, com <strong>A Era da Inoc\u00eancia<\/strong> (1920), que Martin Scorcese transformou num belo drama de \u00e9poca (Apple TV+, 1993). O t\u00edtulo, segundo Edith, n\u00e3o se refere aos piratas do Caribe do s\u00e9culo 16. Mas aos lordes ingleses que na \u00e9poca estavam quase falindo e investiam em casamentos arranjados com jovens herdeiras das novas fortunas nascidas dos EUA do final do s\u00e9culo 19. A s\u00e9rie mostra um grupo de jovens milion\u00e1rias visitando uma amiga que se casou com um desses lordes. Elas percebem que n\u00e3o s\u00e3o bem-vindas, mas seu dinheiro sim. O foco \u00e9 a jovem Nan (Kristine Froseth), que tem seu cora\u00e7\u00e3o dividido entre Sir Guy Thwarte, um nobre falido em busca de uma jovem rica, e o duque Theo, membro da fam\u00edlia real que est\u00e1 verdadeiramente apaixonado por ela. \u00c9 um triangulo amoroso cl\u00e1ssico, mas com vis\u00f5es femininas bem interessantes.
